Are seven specific foods an exciting new treatment for cancer? Experts at the Angiogenesis Foundation say yes.
At any time, many of us have tiny tumors forming in our bodies, no larger than the tip of a pencil, but our natural cancer-fighting system usually dispatches them before they grow large enough to become a problem. The difference between a small, innocuous tumor and a runaway disease is angiogenesis, the growth of new capillary blood vessels in the body, says Dr. William Li, President and Medical Director of the Angiogenesis Foundation, as well as associates Michelle Hutnik, D.Sc., Roderick Smith M.S., and Vincent Li, M.D.
Angiogenesis is important for healing and reproduction. Normally, the body controls angiogenesis by producing a precise balance of growth and inhibitory factors in healthy tissues. When excessive or insufficient blood vessel growth occurs, many deadly and debilitating conditions, including cancer, skin diseases, age-related blindness, diabetic ulcers, cardiovascular disease, stroke, to name just a few, are the result.
New treatments focus on angiogenesis to fight disease, prolonge the lives of cancer patients, prevent limb amputations, reverse vision loss, and improve general health. Antiangiogenic therapies work by literally starving tumors of blood supply.

The good news is that many foods contain naturally occurring inhibitors of angiogenesis. Eating these particular foods acts to boost the body's existing system that suppresses undesirable angiogenesis. Angiogenesis inhibitors have been discovered from natural sources, including tree bark, fungi, shark muscle and cartilage, sea coral, green tea, and herbs (licorice, ginseng, cumin, garlic). In fact, more than 300 angiogenesis inhibitors have been discovered to date.
At a prestigious TED Conference on February 10, 2010, Dr. William Li said: "We are rating foods based on their cancer-fighting qualities. What we eat is really our chemotherapy three times a day. We discovered that Mother Nature laced a large number of foods and herbs with anti-angiogenesis features."

Of the many angiogenesis inhibiting foods, seven are considered "super-inhibitors." They include:
The above mentioned anti-angiogenesis foods proved to be "as effective or more potent in battling cancer" through anti-angiogenesis as approved drugs. Yet unlike conventional drugs, there are no side effects associated with consumption of natural foods and they are vastly more affordable, bringing cancer treatment to people of all walks of life.
 Other factors that naturally increase helpful angiogenesis are exercise
reducing stress hormones like catecholamines and nueropeptides through relaxation and exercise) and getting enough sleep;
quitting smoking (carcinogens found in cigarette smoke stimulate angiogenesis and increase the growth rate of lung cancers. By the way, studies by veterinarians have also shown that secondary smoke found on the fur of cats, increases the risk of oral cancers when cats lick their fur, so if you smoke, wash your hands before eating or touching anyone else) and
losing weight. Fat tissue is highly vascularized, and angiogenesis promotes fat expansion by supplying fat cells with oxygen and nutrients. Obesity increases the risk of various cancers as overweight individuals have more proangiogenic factors that may contribute to tumor growth.

My picks:
Food: Antioxidant juice. A 4 ounce serving of this juice is equivalent to 13 servings of highly anti-oxidant fruits and vegetables.
Exercise: the Sole F80 Treadmill. Great quality at a reasonable cost, as far as treadmills go.
Stress Reduction and weight loss: Learn to let go of things that aren't going to matter in a year, say what you mean and mean what you say, put yourself first so you can be there for those who matter. Read these tips and more in my book Effortless Weightloss: Small Changes that Lead to Extraordinary Results!
Quit smoking: Most people have difficulty quitting cold-turkey. Good options are hypnotherapy; changing your mindset through good reading like The Alcoholism and Addiction Cureand talking to your doctor about medication.
